Before a deposit is paid, we check who owns the property, whether it carries charges or debts, its urban planning situation and its licences. We then draft or review the reservation and deposit contract (contrato de arras), prepare the signing before the notary and follow the transaction through to registration in the Land Registry.

Key point

Before signing any reservation or deposit contract, ask a lawyer to review the Land Registry extract (nota simple), the urban planning status of the property and any charges on it. Most problems after a purchase could have been detected at this stage.
